State Power Lift
On Friday it was just a gym at Dallas Lutheran School (DLS), but Sat., Feb. 23, it was transformed into an arena of physical prowess for the 3rd Annual State Power Lift.Eleven private and parochial schools from across the state participated in the meet with a total of 111 female and male lifters grades 9-12.
The Power Lift consisted of three lifts: parallel squat, bench press and the deadlift.The team score is derived by taking a school’s top four athlete totals from each weight division and adding them together.Individual scores are calculated on weight class for each of the three lifts and for the individual’s total.
The Team Champion was awarded to first time participant St. Joseph High School Victoria, TX.Aaron Ritz, a senior at DLS, lifted the most weight overall a total of 4,420 lbs.DLS junior, Alley Hickey, won second place in her weight class and freshman, Sara Zangani, won third in her weight class.Nate Robbins, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Meet Director for DallasLutheranSchool commented that the attendance of the schools and lifters increased for the third straight year.He looks forward to the meet’s continued growth.
