Spring Break - Here
Every year I look forward to spring break. Not getting out of town, but to be here and enjoy. I love the one week glimpse of summer’s fun. This year I hope to prevail over my husband Michael, who loves to go camping or something insane like that Ask me about last year’s tent camping trip to the Hill Country during a tornado warning and flash flood watch – I should have earned some points for that one. For me, I love having time with my kids. We love to: spend a day in one of the cities we live around, take friends to movies, stay in our pjs all day, and do things as if we were on vacation like eat ice cream every night. Right over in Grapevine, there are so many things to do. Vetro Art Glass is a glass blowing factory that has live demonstrations. Spring break is a great time to go, since the studio gets pretty hot in the summer. While in there, stop by Schakolad for chocolate covered Oreo. If the kids are patient, shop for some fun and different items at Gypsy Warehouse. Don’t forget to stroll down Main Street to explore the historic shopping district. For an all day adventure, ride the old Cotton Belt Train line to Ft. Worth Stockyards, they run most of the year, but only certain days. It takes about an hour and a half to get to the stockyards, but what a great time on an old time train!Or, let them get out their energy at either Summit Rock Climbing Gym off 114 or take them to WoodwardSkatePark in Grapevine Mills. Getting back to nature is easy around this big city. In Lewisville see Bison at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (only on certain days), kayak down the Elm Fork (equipment provided) or just take a picnic and enjoy all the wildlife – we hear there are otter there, so this is a must for us!There is also a working feed mill on Main Street in old Lewisville. Working continuously since 1886, it is a trip back in time. Then of course we will have to get ice cream on the way home. Let me know what you are doing for spring break, or if you know of any unexplored places around our towns.
