Rose-Mary Rumbley Visits Lakewood Library
On Tuesday, February 12, author, actor, and local historian Rose-Mary
Rumbley spoke to a full auditorium, which included many of her long time
fans, at the Lakewood Branch of the Dallas Public Library. Ms. Rumbley
was scheduled to review the biography, “Team of Rivals: the Political
Genius of Abraham Lincoln,” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
The audience was well entertained as Ms. Rumbley pointed out the similarities between the politics of today and Lincoln’s time ("Lincoln’s a rail splitter? Well, 'rail' is 'liar' spelled backward!" was at least one insult hurled at Lincoln.), and brought that era to life for the audience. She engaged her audience and encouraged questions. She introduced one member of the audience, a Mr. Surratt, a direct descendant of Mary Surratt, the woman who was condemned in a U.S.Military trial and subsequently executed for her part in the plot to kill Lincoln.
At the conclusion of her presentation, the Lakewood Library Friends presented Ms. Rumbley with a bouquet of flowers. This event, which was free and open to the public, was sponsored by the Lakewood Library Friends (LLF).
