DOOLITTLE RAIDERS MARK 66TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION IN DALLAS WITH LUNCHEON

(ADDISON, Texas) – February 20, 2008 — Almost 66 years ago, brave airmen launched the first attack on Japan after Pearl Harbor. Today, they gather each year to remember and celebrate.            This year, the CavanaughFlightMuseum will host a luncheon, book signing and symposium in their honor from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 18 at the Museum, 4572 Claire Chennault in Addison.

The DoolittleRaid (recreated in the MGM movie, “ThirtySecondsOverTokyo”) took place on April 18, 1942, just over four months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the first strike by the United States against the Japanese home islands, 16 crews led by Lt. Col. James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle flew B-25 "Mitchell" bombers off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet. The mission was a success. The B-25s surprised the Japanese and they were able to attack strategic military and industrial targets.

“We are thrilled to host this event,” said Doug Jeanes, Cavanaugh Flight Museum Executive Director. “It’s very important for us to honor the sacrifices the Doolittle Raiders made and keep their memory alive.”

The Doolittle Raider’s presentation will be moderated by noted author and Doolittle historian Col. Carroll V. Glines, USAF (Ret.). A book signing will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Guests can purchase books on the Doolittle Raiders from the Museum’s gift shop and have them signed by the Doolittle Raiders in attendance. The luncheon will be part of the 2008 Doolittle Raider’s Annual Reunion, held April 16 through 20, officially hosted by the Frontiers of Flight Museum located at Love Field. In addition to touring the Cavanaugh Flight Museum and the Frontiers of Flight Museum, the group will also visit the History of Aviation Collection at the University of Texas at Dallas. It houses an extensive archive of papers, artifacts and memorabilia from the late General James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle.
