DOOLITTLE RAIDERS MARK 66TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION IN DALLAS WITH LUNCHEON
(ADDISON, Texas) – February 20, 2008 — Almost 66 years ago, brave airmen launched the first attack on Japan after Pearl Harbor. Today, they gather each year to remember and celebrate. This year, the CavanaughFlightMuseum will host a luncheon, book signing and symposium in their honor from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 18 at the Museum, 4572 Claire Chennault in Addison. The DoolittleRaid (recreated in the MGM movie, “ThirtySecondsOverTokyo”) took place on April 18, 1942, just over four months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the first strike by the United States against the Japanese home islands, 16 crews led by Lt. Col. James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle flew B-25 "Mitchell" bombers off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet. The mission was a success. The B-25s surprised the Japanese and they were able to attack strategic military and industrial targets.
