>> NEW! Lindsay previews 2010 Winter Games | China, a year later

>> About Lindsay Toler

Lindsay Toler is a Lake Highlands resident who in the summer of 2008, as a University of Missouri journalism student, blogged about her experience as an Olympic News Service volunteer in Beijing.

The interesting, insightful accounts about daily life and culture that she posted on her blog were included as part of Olympics coverage on the newspaper’s Web site, dallasnews.com, as well as in the print edition of neighborsgo.

Lindsay achieved a lot of firsts in Beijing. She was the first journalist connected to The Dallas Morning News to blog and post video from Beijing. She posted the first YouTube video of the lighting of the Olympic cauldron from outside the stadium. And, of course, she was the first – and possibly last – American caught on video eating scorpions, starfish and centipedes on a stick.

She also wore a neighborsgo T-shirt in the Forbidden City, got yelled at by a Chinese gymnastics official for walking on a balance beam and appeared before millions of viewers on China Central Television.
