The Mystery of Vampires
Dr. Nancy Remp Smith will offer a free lecture to the public on “The Mystery of Vampires,” drawn from her extensive research on the subject, on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7 PM in the Dulaney Room of the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library.
She will discuss the development of the vampire archetype and how it came to be popular, the romance and folklore of vampires, scientific investigations into their reality, and the literature of vampires. She’ll also speak about the popularity of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series as well as the depiction of vampires in Japanese Manga.
Nancy Remp Smith holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from Southern Methodist University and has taught World Religions, History of Religions, Ethics, and Contemporary Religious Problems at Brookhaven College and the Collin County Community College District. An entertaining and engaging speaker, she has also lectured at area churches and cultural organizations, including recent talks at McKin | McKinney Public Library

The Flower Mound High School Drumline will host their 3rd annual Dinner and a Show at 7:00pm on Thursday, November 5th in the FMHS cafeteria. Alice in Wonderland at Marcus High School
Marcus High School Theatre Arts Department is proud to present Alice in Wonderland, the stage adaptation by Brainerd Duffield. Audiences are invited to the children's world of make-believe, where the impossible becomes possible, the unreal, real, and where the heights of adventure are limited only by the depths of imagination.
Follow the young, imaginative Alice as she chases the beleaguered White Rabbit down the rabbit-hole to encounter some of the most enduring and strangest characters in all of literature. The moralizing Duchess, the Mad Hatter, the rotund and rollicking Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the diabolical Queen of Hearts, and the philosophical Cheshire Cat are only some of the characters that you will meet in this theatrical interpretation of Carroll's classic works, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
