On Sunday, November 1, 2009, from 9 a.m. to noon, there will be a sale of beautiful hand-knitted items to benefit the Austin Street Shelter. The knitters of First United Methodist Church in Coppell, have made one-of-a kind hats, scarves, shawls, and handbags. They donated all the yarn, so these unique items will be sold with ALL proceeds going to Austin Street Shelter. The sale will take place in Wesley Hall of First United Methodist Church of Coppell. The Colony High School Cheerleaders & Cheerleaders from The Colony Youth Football Association (TCYFA) are teaming up to host the 2009 3rd Annual Cheer Mania Competition on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at The Colony High School Gymnasium. This cheer event is geared toward developing a healthy competitive environment for cheer squads all over the Metroplex. Local Recreational Youth squads/Little League and LISD Middle Schools are welcomed to join. Warm up area will be available and a concession stand will be open. Completed registration forms and competition fees must be received by October 31, 2009. ALL COMPETITION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. HERITAGE HOUSE TOURS – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 One of the oldest homes in Irving will be open for public tours on Sunday, November 1, from 3pm to 5pm. It was built in 1912 by C. P. Schulze, brother of one of the co-founders of Irving, J. O. Schulze. The Irving Heritage House is located at 303 South O’Connor and was designated as a Texas State Historical Landmark in 1986. Admission is free and docent led tours are provided at 3pm and 4pm. Many beautiful antiques are throughout the Heritage House. Some of the furnishings include an 1840 clock, an organ (ca.1880), a square piano (ca.1860), Limoges, Sevres, and Bavarian porcelains, and many more items from the past. Give thanks for life: Hymns and songs of remembrance, love, and hope November 1 at 4 p.m. Northaven members have always found the music of the church to be a powerful form of spiritual expression. A special hymn festival entitled “Give thanks for life: Hymns and songs of remembrance, love, and hope” and scheduled at the church at 4 p.m. November 1 will give full voice to that expression in a program led by renowned teacher, editor, composer and conductor Carlton R. Young. The hymn festivalt is presented as part of the Jane and Elbert Marshall Concert Series. In addition to the Northaven Choir, outstanding musicians will provide accompaniment and harmony to the celebratory event.
