Rowlett Brothers to Compete “Worlds” Apart
Dalan Faulkner (15) and his brother Danny (17) will be competing for world championships at the end of August but in different sports and on different continents. Dalan is headed to France for the rock climbing world championship and Danny to Orlando for the world wakeboarding championship, but the big dilemma, which parent goes where? Dalan, a Freshman at Rowlett High School, will be one of only 5 Americans representing his age group and division for Team USA at the IFSC World Youth Rock Climbing Championships in Valence, France. On the very same weekend, his brother Danny Faulkner, a Senior at Rowlett High School, will be competing at the ROCKSTAR WWA World Wakeboard Championship in Orlando, Florida. Mom and dad, Debbie and Danny Faulkner, have been supportive of their sons’ pursuit of World Championships. They converted the attic of their garage into an air-conditioned rock climbing room for Dalan and dad spends hours every week on Lake Ray Hubbard pulling son Danny as he perfects his run. Mom and sister, Danyelle, will be traveling to France to cheer for Dalan and dad will travel to Orlando to support Danny. Dalan has been competing in rock climbing for 2 years. He represented Team USA in Montreal, Canada at the Continental Championships. He qualified for worlds at the SCS Youth National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah earlier this summer. Dalan spent three weeks this summer in Boulder, Colorado training with Team USA and top professional rock climbers in the country. He will be leaving for Worlds 10 days early to climb in the French Alps before competing August 27-30. Danny has competed in wakeboarding for 4 years and this is the first year he has competed pro. He qualified for worlds by placing 5th at the 2009 Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships in the Junior Men’s Division. Danny is currently sponsored by Liquid Force, a popular brand of wakeboards and apparel.
