Back to School Bash a Success
On July 25th Christian Center of Mesquite kicked off the upcoming school year with their annual Back-to-School Bash. Free school supplies were given to school age children. “This is our third year to help the kids of the community with school supplies, and each year it gets bigger,” says Maranatha Lingerfelt, event director. The children enjoyed free pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting, dunking booths, and lemonade and hot dogs. “We wanted this event to be totally free to the community. Some parents came expecting to have to buy tickets, and were very surprised that all events were free,” said Mrs. Lingerfelt. “We have several teachers and school counselors in our church who see first-hand the need for help with school supplies for families. Last year we gave our excess supplies to a local MISD elementary school, but this year the demand was greater than the supply. We prepared around 250 bags of supplies and ran out in the first hour.” “Our church has only been at this location for four months, but we started planning for this event many months in advance while the church was at a temporary location. We were thrilled that the new building and parking lot was complete in time for this important community event.” Christian Center of Mesquite credits the sucess of the Back to School Bash to the generous donations and support from local merchants and church members for the supplies.
