Cole Glasson Has Best National Finish

1 Rating / 1 Comment
Cole Glasson arrived with his team in New Castle, Indiana on Wednesday night to try and have a good showing at the inaugural Championship Karting International Grand Prix of New Castle. To date, Cole has not finished in the top 10 in these events and his goal was to do so this weekend. Cole started out practice on Thursday several seconds off the pace of the front runners and while he continued to make gains each time, he was not getting close enough on the set up. On Friday (after changing the chassis set up completely) he was finally within two seconds of the pole sitter and it was time to qualify. Cole knew how important it was to qualify high in the field, but he missed a timed opportunity to get in the draft during qualifying and he qualified 11th. The good news is this put him on the inside of row 6, the bad news is we had a driver from England that seemed to have a liking for Cole's kart as he took Cole out on three separate occasions during the heat races, almost flipping him at one point (see picture).

After finishes at the back of the field in each heat race, Cole hit the track on Sunday's practice and turned in the best times of the field. This did two things: proved to Cole that he was a front runner and let the team know that they had the kart, he just needed to get it in the front draft pack. Unfortunately, starting in row 6 made it difficult to get to the front draft pack quick enough to remain with them before they pulled from the field. Cole ended up finishing 10th in the pre final and 8th in the final thus capturing his goal for the race weekend and also his best finish in these National series. Cole and his team are getting the Cadet chassis close to being setup for these events and will next visit New Jersey for the Championship Karting International Series second race of the season at the end of June. He is also competing this week in the IKF Grand Nationals at Eagles Canyon Road Course in Texas.
