Last year I got a glimpse of life in the military.

At the time, I was throwing myself a series of daily pity parties — my husband was traveling for business and I was going home to an empty apartment each night.

I was filming a Helpless Housewife video about ways people could help to support the troops. As part of the video, I greeted returning troops arriving at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

While all our contributors are terrific and very much appreciated, there are a few who go above and beyond.

They post content faster than a speeding bullet. Their work is more powerful than a locomotive. They are able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Well, maybe not. But these folks really are my heroes. In fact, I bet they’d make great comic book characters —the Lewisville/Flower Mound neighborsgo Avengers.

A family baking its way out of a financial crisis. Adorable identical triplets. A middle-school student who scaled Mount Kilimanjaro.

These are just a few of the remarkable people I have met or learned about during my first year as editor of Lewisville/Flower Mound neighborsgo.

The Denton County Republican Men's Club will host a council candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. April 2 in the Lewisville Community Room, 1197 W. Main St. The forum is for candidates in the Highland Village, Flower Mound and Lewisville races.

Saturday, Matt and I dropped by my sister-in-law Jenny’s home in Carrollton to visit her family and Matt’s parents, who were staying with them.

Most of us were in the living room when we heard Jenny yelling her husband’s name. I glanced up and saw thick smoke pouring out of the ceiling vents.
