OK, not a jet plane per se ... more like a 2006 Ford Focus. But regardless, I am leaving.

Today is my last day at neighborsgo. After 1.5 years here, it's time for a new adventure. I start as web editor for Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch on Monday, and I'm so excited to see where this new path takes me.

I've made some great friends, learned a ton and had a lot of fun as a neighborsgo staffer. So thanks to anyone who has been a part of my experience.

Au revoir!

Kandace and I have been overly obsessed with puppies lately.

Here's a little idea of what our lunch break looked like today... Meet Benjamin!

Remember all those great giveaways on voting day in November? Looks like Inauguration Day (Tuesday) will be no different.

Krispy Kreme is celebrating the freedom of living in America by giving away free donuts. Just drop in on Tuesday and pick out a donut of your choice -- any kind you want!

I'll do some investigating and post more great giveaways as I find them.

So I've told you the story about me being mistaken for having Mexican heritage. On my recent vacation to Disney World, I had an even better (and painful)mistaken identity experience.

The age guesser at Disney World thought I was 16. SIXTEEN. As in, just-got-my-license, senior-in-high-school, kind of sixteen. Really?

I've always heard I look young. But six years younger? I'm 22! What made matters worse is he guessed my little sister spot on -- 15. Apparently we don't look 7 years apart, but one. Awesome.

For the first time ever, I have my very own Christmas tree!! Jeff and I spent Friday night picking out a tree, decorating it (and the apartment) and listening to Christmas music. I made all the ornaments myself!

Here's what it looks like!

I got free breakfast this morning, all because I voted.

Starbucks is giving a free coffee to everyone who comes in and says "I Voted" today. Krispy Kreme, along the same lines, is giving every voter a free patriotic, star-shaped donut. As both these stores on on my way to work, I stopped in and picked up a free breakfast! What could be better?  A vote for my favorite candidate and a tasty donut to boot.

It doesn't stop there, though. The election day freebies continue all day. You could, essentially, snag a free breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert just because it's election day! Here are some other giveaways to watch out for:

  • Arby's -- free roast beef sandwich
  • Ben & Jerry's -- free scoop of ice cream from 5-8 p.m.
  • Chik-fil-a -- turn in your "I Voted" sticker and get a free chicken sandwich
  • Pizza Hut -- 20% of online orders

You can even get free tatoo removal from New Look Dallas. (This is one of the few LOCAL giveaways that other voters in the nation won't get. Woohoo!)

Anyone know of any other cool area freebies?

I voted today! Woohoo!

Can anyone guess who I voted for?

Since I was, essentially, bed-ridden Sunday after the car wreck/emergency room fiasco... Jeff and I decided to get into the holiday spirit and carve some pumpkins. We each did one, and our pup Hurley did one ALL BY HIMSELF! :)

Saturday night was supposed to be a blast. Jeff and I were heading to Fort Worth for the TCU homecoming game. We we're supposed to meet friends at the FREE alumni tailgate. We never got there.

We were about five minutes away from campus, and the traffic was terrible. We decided to take a different exit and some back roads to avert it. Boy, was that a mistake.

As we drove through an intersection, a black Cadillac plowed into us. Both cars kept moving; we spun, hit a curb and then ran into a light pole. The airbags went off.

Unfortunately, my feet were propped up on the dashboard at the time of impact. The airbags smashed my feet up into my legs. Luckily, we were right across the street from a busy restaurant, so plenty of people called 9-1-1 immediately. In a matter of minutes, I was on my way to the ER — by myself.

So, after sitting alone in an ER waiting room for hours, I finally emerged, with a boot on my leg and crutches to get around with. It's been an adventure getting used to using crutches. I'm slow doing ANYTHING, and more importantly, I can't drive. (It's my right foot that's in the boot.) So, I've been bumming rides off Kandace, Coppell/Valley Ranch editor, and Jeff's been using my car to get around. (His was totaled.)

I'd post photos of my leg, the crutches and the car, but I think that's just more depressing than interesting.

Anyway, that was my Saturday night. How was your weekend?
