November is National Beard Month. What better way to celebrate by seeing which neighborsgo male staffer can 1) go the longest without shaving and 2) grow a sweet, luxurious unmaintained beard. It will be 30 days of legendary awesomeness.

U2 was there with the snake charmers.

So was I.

Judge for yourself.

Every time I look in the mirror, I see these little pointed white things across my chin and around to the sides of my face. They're standing straight like a bed of nails. They don't hurt or itch, but they're not exactly soft either. ... Somebody mentioned that I should consider dying it, but that seems insane. Dye a beard. Hahaha.

The beard is coming back alright, but not sure what shape it's in. How about ... bad shape?  Or sad shape?

I was thinking about that Lady gaga song, pokerface, and the song for me would be porcupineface. hahaha!

Well, on the bright side, it's nice not shaving or worrying about shaving. And I can't wait to win the grand prize of $50,000. hahaha

Here is a shot from last Thursday night out at the Richardson vs. South Garland football game. My beard is really starting to come into its own.

After work Friday, I got rid of the facial hair chiefly because it was affecting me negatively.

Hear me out. I’m not incredibly vain, but I prefer looking my best; a bearded Bob is not my best look. Not even close. The beard was itchy and made grouchy. As soon as I shaved, I felt much better. Happier. More like “me.” And I looked better.

Still, participating in No Shave November was fun. I encourage others who enjoy their beards to keep on growing.   (more)

So, at some point, should we change the name to Beard On '09? It was off for just the one day, and it's been growing ever since.

I went to a funeral on Friday looking kinda scruffy. It's a good thing that only two people knew me, or three if you count the deceased.

On Thursday, I have a doctor's appointment with a throat guy who wants to see my tonsils. Maybe he won't notice the hair growing on my tonsils... hahaha.

I can only imagine what Thanksgiving is going to be like with all the family....

My last post included a slap-dash take on what I would look like if I could actually grow a decent beard. Turns out that the good people at Gillette have a "styler" to help the process of choosing. All you have to do is upload a picture and adjust the styles on your face. Give it a shot at the Gillette Web site. It's A LOT of fun. I think I look dashing with a handlebar.

My scruff doesn't resemble a beard yet, but it's getting there.

Right now, I've got my I'm-too-lazy-to-shave look going on. This look is nothing new; Central zoners can attest to that statement.

If anyone knows beards and scruff, it's Bruce Springsteen. His jeans and bandana (see background) would approve of my look.

It's Day 5 now, and I can see the beard slowly coming back. I would estimate it's about six points right now, which is about half a pica. (For those who don't know picas or points, then you need to buy a pica pole.)

I hardly notice it right now but somebody asked me last night if it's starting to itch yet.

Itch? I didn't know anything about that. I didn't know that was supposed to happen. I don't have anything to put on it when it starts... or if it starts. Do I need baby powder or benadryl? Or is there something else?

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't itch. And if it does, I'll wear some gloves.

I recommend using this to keep your beard so fresh and so clean:

I’m fairly certain I will return to my shaving ways after No Shave November. However, I must admit that I’ve spent a fair amount of time researching a variety of beard styles. I call the “artist rendering” to the left “The Hank Scorpio.” Of these listed beard styles, which would you recommend for me?

No you can't read my porcupine face (said in a sing-song voice)
hahaha. too funny.
Ask your wife what she thinks. If she's not complaining of pointy whiskers when you touch cheeks...
They look like they'd be great for popping balloons at parties.
Too funny, Gary ... I mean "Porcupine Face"
