The Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd., launches the Learn 2B Green program series with Grazing in the Park presented by Darrin Nordahl,2 p.m. March 6. Nordahl, city designer for Davenport, Iowa and author of "Public Produce: The New Urban Agriculture" will lecture on edible landscapes and the benefits of “municipal agriculture,” the use of the abundant land under public control to grow food for community-wide health. Learn 2B Green is a series of earth-friendly programs offered in March for all ages and is sponsored by Bank of America. More Learn 2B Green events for adults will take place at the Central Library on the following dates:
· March 18, 6:30 p.m., Landscape Water Conservation program. Dr. Dotty Woodson and Barry Allen, Conservationist/Training Coordinator for The City of Irving Water Utilities Department will discuss water conserving landscape practices and practical advice.
· March 20, from 2 to 5 p.m., Green Consumer Fair. Vendors will be on hand to explain and demonstrate a variety of eco-friendly products and services.
· March 25, 6:30 p.m., Native Trees and Xeriscaping. Mike Griffith from the City of Irving’s Parks and Recreation Department will lead a discussion about what trees and shrubs are best for Irving’s backyards.
· March 27, 2 p.m., Basics of Green Building and Remodeling. Jim Sargent, a highly regarded pioneer in high performing home-building in Texas will share his knowledge of what works and what does not in energy efficient homes.
