Author Visits and Book Discussion Groups

  • Oct. 15, 6 p.m. – Reel Reads: “The Fall of the House of Usher,” a movie-watching event, Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail. 
  • Oct. 15, 7 p.m. – Heritage Book Club, Poe’s Work, Heritage Senior Center, 200 S. Jefferson St.
  • Oct. 20, 7 p.m. – Matthew Pearl at the Irving Arts Center, Dupree Theater, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd.
  • Oct. 22, 7 p.m. – Valley Ranch Reads!: “The Fall of the House of Usher,” literary discussion, Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail. 
  • Oct. 27, 7 p.m. – Reception and author visit featuring Dr. Scott Peeples, National Scouting Museum, 1329 W. Walnut Hill Lane

  • Oct. 1, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. – The Big Bleed: Books or Blood Donation Drive benefitting the Friends of the Irving Public Library and Carter Blood Care, Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. 
  • Oct. 10, 2 p.m. – Irving Chautauqua: “Poe in 3D,” featuring “The Tell-Tale Heart,” Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. 
  • Oct. 15, 7 p.m. – POEtry Slam featuring local spoken word artist Will Richey and percussionist Alejandro Perez (AP), Northwest Branch Library, 2928 N. Beltline Rd.
  • Oct. 16, 7 p.m. – Ravin’ about Poe featuring Bill Fountain and his theater group in a dramatic performance of Poe’s short stories and poems, Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. 
  • Oct. 22, 7 p.m. – POEtry on the Patio featuring Journeyman Soul – Darius Frasure, Will Richey, and Alejandro Perez (AP), at the Java Me Up Café at the Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail. 
  • Oct. 23, noon to midnight – From Poe to Price: a Vincent Price Horror Movie Marathon featuring movies directed by Roger Corman,Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. 

Teen Events:

  • Sept. 1-Oct. 17 – Teen POEster Contest, winners to be announced Oct. 24 at the Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd, following the Teen Graphic Novel Workshop.
  • Oct. 20, 4:30 p.m. – TeenScene: Horror Flick, Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. 
  • Oct. 24, 2 p.m. – Teen Graphic Novel Workshop featuring Bill Fountain, Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd.
  • Oct. 30, 5:30 p.m. – Teen Masquerade Party featuring Darius Frasure, Central Library, 801 W. Irving Blvd. 

Child-friendly Programs:

  • Happy Birthday Poe, from Beau the Crow Puppet Show – Sandra McLean and Beau the Crow will fly in to the following libraries to help celebrate Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday with a one-of-a-kind puppet show.
