So long, chapeaus

Hats and I can never be.

I’ve tried to make it work. It should. I love accessories, vintage clothes, and looking just a tad unusual. Hats can be or do all these things. But it never works out.

This week, I found a perfect hat at my second-favorite store. It was bright blue with a light blue ribbon. It had a button on the side. It screamed sophistication and intrigue –until I put it on. Then it screamed, in turns as I adjusted it, girl with abnormally large head, girl wanted as a person of interest in a crime, girl trying much, much too hard.

With a heavy heart, I took it off. I knew if I couldn’t pull off this quintessential cap, I couldn’t make any hat work.

So, I placed it back on the shelf and with it my high hat hopes.

Now be honest, is there a way to pull off a hat? Or are hats a thing of the past and almost always a mistake, as Kathleen Kelly says in “You’ve Got Mail”?
