Terra Cotta Warriors
Honestly, the Olympic Green was kinda boring. I mean, if you were on your way to an event, it was fun. But if you just went to hang out and see the action, there wasn’t much to do except take pictures of the torch and visit sponsor exhibitions. I saw lots of families taking naps on whatever benches were in the shade.
There was one awesome exhibition though. Johnson & Johnson brought 5 of the famous Terra Cotta Warriors from Xian up to the Olympic Green. Check out my pictures by clicking (more) below.
I was one of the only non-Chinese who waited in the long, slow line to
see the Warriors, which would be a sign that they were popular here
except that everything on the Green had a long, slow line. The queue to
get in to the Olympic souvenir store a few blocks away was just as
long, but with more pushing.
Still, the Chinese people around
me were excited to see this part of their history. They all ooh’ed and
ah’ed during the film clip where Johnson & Johnson (who are
apparently helping preserve the warriors) showed footage of a Warriors
face and then showed the face of a someone today who looks like him. I
think they all felt a deep connection to their past.
