This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and as weird as this may sound, it’s one of my favorite holidays of the year.
No, I’m not a mom, nor am I planning to become one anytime soon.
But I love holidays on which I get to make people feel special — birthdays, anniversaries, etc. And Mother’s Day is the ultimate, because I get to honor my best friend.
My mom and I have always been close, but as the old saying goes: distance makes the heart grow fonder.
Since I left for college nearly six years ago, not a day has gone by that we haven’t spoke. Whether through e-mail, text or phone, we’re always in touch. We talk more now than we did when I lived there.
And it’s not because I “had to.” It’s because I wanted to.
So this weekend, I’ll head down to Houston to spend some time with her. My mom’s not one for actual tangible gifts on Mother’s Day; she “just wants to spend time with her babies.” Lucky for me, my mom’s a bigger baseball fan than I am.
She’s requested I take her out to the Astros vs. Padres game. Isn’t she cool?

Also, if you’re a mom, be sure to post your photos, videos and stories about what your kids did to honor you.
