I'm a 30-year-old Allen mom of 3 kids ages 11, 7, and 4, a Golden Retriever, a kitten, and the wife of the best husband in the world. Although I spend most of my day functioning as a wife, friend, mother, and nurse, I somehow manage to take on the rest of the world in a personal sense. These are my stories.

First Day of School!!!
When my alarm went off this morning I was so excited to get up!  It’s the first day of school!!!  I was too excited to dress my kids all cute and see them in their bright and shiny new school clothes all happy to go back to school.  Parents know this week is precious.  This week contains the only two… maybe three days kids are actually excited to go to school.  The other days of the school year are filled with, “I don’t feel good!”,  “I’m tired!”, “Do I HAVE to go to school?”, “My backpack is too heavy!”, “My shirt is itchy!”  Ok.  That sentence made me sick of school already.

Anyways!  I got my daughter’s hair all curly and forced my son into a nice shirt, sat them down at the breakfast table where I stuffed them full of homemade cinnamon rolls, and then we were off!  But then we weren’t because traffic was ridiculous so we had to park in a neighborhood farther away than our own house, so driving turned out to be the worst idea ever.

So after walking to school from a neighborhood that wasn’t our own we finally reached the front doors of the school!  And then we waited for 20 minutes to cram through the over-crowded front doors.  Once inside we joined the shuffling traffic in the hallway, made our way around the stroller moms and into the kids’ classrooms.  The first day of school is so sweet!  All the kids are sitting quietly at their desks working on whatever paper is waiting for them.  No one is fighting or throwing things.  No one is kicking over chairs.  There’s usually nice, calm music playing, and the teacher is walking around talking to parents and kids.  It’s just all gooey and happy, and you feel great about leaving your kids there, ya know?  Not like the other days when you drop your kid off at the curb praying to God the principal won’t be calling you that day.

So after the kids were tucked away nicely at their desks my youngest child and I headed through the crosswalk where we dodged the crowd of now power-walking stroller moms to get to the car.  We then ran to Target and the grocery store where no school-age children could be found.  It was fabulous!  No long lines, no whining, no Jonas Brothers gossip….  The first day of school means finally getting things done in peace, actually finishing a proj…. OMG!  It’s 2:45!  I have to pick up the kids, the baby’s asleep, I’m ganna be the last car in the freaking carpool lane, and I’ll probably run out of gas!  Ah yes… the school year is here in full swing.
