Getting to know the community

Over the weekend I ventured to theHuffines Art TrailsFestivalinRichardson, and it reminded me of the holiday markets in New York, except it was warmer and there was less cement.

Talented artists tempted my eyes, but, regretfully I left with no new treasures. However, my two friends found unique necklaces made by Kelly Coronado of Chole Lane. Other interesting booths included clay orchids that looked real and photography that left my friends and me envious of the photographers’ adventures to far away beautiful places.

I learned about the festival an article about it was submitted to neighborsgo, and that’s how I learn about so many of you and your activities in the community.

Last week, Larry Williams invited me to the Richardson Optimist Club meeting. The group was congenial, friendly and knowledgeable about Richardson and Plano happenings. Debbie Walsh, executive director of Richardson Neighborhood Youth and Family Services spoke to the group about her job. She works with kids who might have taken one step in the wrong direction get back on the right path.

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to speak out both a North Trail District Boy Scout Roundtable at First United Methodist Church of Richardson and a Publicity Forum at the Lake HighlandsUnitedMethodistChurch.

Alan Edwards a frequent contributor for the Scouts hosted me to help inform other adult Scouts about neighborsgo’s mission to share your community news.

Rhonda Russell and Carol Toler hosted the Publicity Forum where I got to meet lots of new faces in the community and say hello to familiar faces like Tonya Bredehoft, who now runs a Lake Highlands event Web site called Lake Highlands Info.

I enjoy being a part of your community and participating in various community events. I hope also that through neighborsgo, I help you learn what’s going on in Richardson, LakeHighlands and Far North Dallas.

And, remember to post all your Halloween photos on neighborsgo.com. I did.
