Calling shotgun
What are your rules for calling it?

“As soon as the front door slams behind you, that’s when you yell ‘Shotgun.’ I really don’t care where I sit, as long as it’s somewhere inside the vehicle.”
Loyd Brumfield, Best Southwest editor

“You have to be outside and on your way to the car before anyone can call it.”
Ryan Claunch, layout editor

“I don’t really care about calling shotgun, so my colleagues think I’m old and boring.”
Naquanna Comeaux, Mesquite editor

“I have never operated under the rule that you had to be outside or see the car to call shotgun. In the past, if someone I was with called it, they got it.”
Kendall Kirkham, assistant editor/reporter

“The only rule I follow in terms of calling shotgun is you must be outside. No calling it at the dinner table before you exit the restaurant.”
Allison Wisk, North Dallas & Park Cities editor

“I once called shotgun by e-mail. I knew it was probably against the ‘rules,’ but my friends indeed granted me the coveted front seat when we went out later that day.”
Lindsay Goll, layout editor

“I’ve always gone by the fact you have to see the car and everyone going in said car has to be outside. After that, it’s fair game to call shotgun.”
Collin Quick, Lake Highlands editor

“As long as you don’t try to call it in advance or before you get outside, I say anything goes!”
Samantha Urban, assistant editor/reporter

“Shotgun is sacred. Whoever calls it first, gets it. But if there’s a girl in a skirt, let her ride up front for goodness sake.”
Jenice Johnson, White Rock editor
