double vision - art exhibit Double Vision: A View of Florence Past & Present is a Florentine rephotographic project funded by a 2008 Fulbright Grant and is based exclusively on the private collections of the Fratelli Alinari in Florence, Italy (the world’s oldest photo archive). Local artist, Amy Holmes George, retraced the steps of the Alinari photographers, visited significant sites within the city of Florence, rephotographed them from the same point of view using today’s digital technology and then printed the images in platinum/palladium, paying homage to an historical photographic process commonly employed during the time of the Alinari. | Laura Moore Fine Art Studios 107 S Tennessee

Non-Profits - How to Build a Brand and Powerf Dallas/Fort Worth American Marketing Association and BrandExtract
Dallas/Fort Worth – Every dollar counts and each contact with a potential donor has never been more important. Non-profit organizations are known for their ability to stretch resources, but are you stretching too thin when it comes to branding and your overall presence online?
Non-profits face the same challenge as every company – establishing a clear brand promise and making sure the message resonates with the audience. However, getting your brand in order is only half the battle. An organization’s website is still the first, and possibly last, place people will go to learn about your organization. Your presence on the web must be on target; clear, concise and easy to navigate.

Home School Resource Day 2010 Heritage Farmstead Museum wants you to come out and play during Home School Day!
By Angie Carroll
For the third consecutive year the National Landmark Heritage Farmstead Museum in central Plano will offer a program specifically designed for children who are home schooled. The farmstead is a living example of North Texas History circa 1890 to 1940, walking on the grounds of the once 360 acre farmstead is literally like traveling back in time. There is no better way to learn about history than to see, hear, touch and feel the past. This year’s program will focus on the importance of a physically active life that was essential to good health and productive farming.
Along with the traditional offerings at Home School Day the HFM will have several new presentations including a lesson in 1890’s children’s fitness, a wool spinning demonstration using wool from the farmsteads own sheep and a behind the scenes tour of the curatorial offices. PSHS Spring Musical: Side Show Plano Senior High School will bring an innovative work to the community when its theatre department presents Henry Krieger's and Bill Russell's "Side Show." Behind its gorgeous music and carefully crafted lyrics is a story about two bright and beautiful young women who were joined together at the hip - literally. "Side Show" is a musical about Violet and Daisy Hilton, a real-life set of conjoined twins who were inseparably connected together for life. While only playing for 91 performances on Broadway, "Side Show" garnered wide critical acclaim and earned four Tony Award nominations in 1998, a tough season on Broadway with competition from "Ragtime," "The Lion King" and "The Scarlet Pimpernel." "Side Show" was nominated for Best Musical, Best Original Musical Score, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Actress in a Musical for both Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner who portrayed the Hilton twins. | Plano Senior High School Theatre 2200 Independence Parkway

What is underachievement and what causes it? There is no gene for underachievement. Instead, underachieving children seem not to have learned the process of achievement-in fact, they have learned to underachieve.
This renowned author, psychologist, researcher, advocate and resource for parents returns to C-FB to share her wisdom and wit. She will provide advice that any parent will benefit from! Reading and Writing: Essentials of Early Chil Educator Ann Lewin-Benham returns to Akiba to address an entirely new subject: early childhood literacy. Amongst the subjects discussed will be how preschool environments can create experiences that support emerging literacy, the benefits of encouraging playing with sounds at home, and how to best nurture early signs of writing.
Ann Lewin-Benham has written two books: Possible Schools: The Reggio Approach to Urban Education (2006), and Powerful Children: Understanding How to Teach and Learn Using the Reggio Approach (2008). Her strong credentials have made her an expert in the Reggio educational approach, a method that is a strong element in the philosophy of early childhood education at Akiba.
Currently a consultant to Johns Hopkins University's School of Education, Ms. Lewin-Benham has been conducting a four-part workshop this year at Akiba, for the benefit of educators and parents of Akiba, as well as educators and members of the Dallas community. | Akiba Academy of Dallas 12324 Merit Drive

Greater Lewisville SEPTSA January Presenation Microboards: An Overview By Jennifer Mathews from the Arc of Texas. A Microboard is formed when a small group of committed Family and friends join together with a person who has a disability to create a nonprofit organization. This group develops a person-centered plan called a PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) to address the individual’s support needs. This PATH – the goals and dreams of the person who has a disability – becomes the Microboard’s mission. The biggest benefit of a Microboard is that the individual who has a disability has control over his or her own life with supports from a nonprofit organization run by those who know and care about them most. | Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church 6101 Morriss Road
