Holiday House
The 14th annual Holiday House Gift & Craft Show will be held from 10 am to 4:30 pm on Sunday, November 8th, at Coppell High School.
More than 100 vendors from all over Texas will be selling one of a kind gifts, clothing, jewelry and food. You will find handmade pottery, specialty pet items, sports memorabilia, jewelry, school spirit wear, home accessories and much much more. In addition to shopping, raffle tickets may be purchased for $2 each or 3 or $5. Prizes include items donate from each of the vendors. Concessions available.

Silver Serenaders Concert
The Silver Serenaders of Texas, a senior adult choir, will present a concert, "Our Hymn of Praise" on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 6 PM at First United Methodist Church, located at 800 South 9th Street in Midlothian, Texas.
The choir is comprised of 100 voices of senior adults 50 years and older who just love singing God's praises. We come from all walks of life and believe that our latter years are just as important as our former years, giving us the desire to stay young at heart through the gift of music. Our concerts are filled with sacred songs as well as show tunes and patriotic music honoring our great land and the men and women who have served to maintain the freedoms we hold dear. Crisis Negotiations
The Negotiations Center at The University of Texas at Dallas presents “Crisis Negotiations: Terrorists and Hostages,” a lecture by Dr. Wayman Mullins at 4:30 p.m., Tues., Nov. 10, in the School of Management’s Davidson Auditorium. Mullins will draw from decades of firsthand experience as he describes how to negotiate with terrorists and hostage-takers. The lessons he’s learned, he says, can be applied in daily negotiations. Mullins is a professor of criminal justice at Texas State University and has extensive experience training others in hostage negotiations. Admission to the lecture is free. The Negotiations Center is an interdisciplinary hub for producing and promoting research on the mix of economics, psychology and business. “Simoniz Car Washes Salute Veterans”
For the fifth year, local Simoniz Car Washes will honor all war-and-peacetime Veterans (and active military personnel) with a FREE full service car wash on Veterans’ Day, Wednesday November 11, 2009.
To receive a free car wash, veterans or active military person can show proof of service in the form of discharge papers (DD214 form), military I.D., Veterans’ organization membership card. They may also be driving a vehicle with a POW plate, Veterans’ plate or a military medal/ribbon plate.

Plaza Suite at Studio B
Studio B presents Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite on November 13, 14, 15. This story takes place over three acts and is set in room 719 at the Manhattan Plaza Hotel. Here, the play tells the story of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza: two are suburbanites who take the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned. The others: a philandering Hollywood producer and an old flame; and a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter to her wedding. This play was written by Neil Simon in 1967 and hit the movie screen in 1971 featuring Walter Matthau.

Free mammograms for uninsured
UT Southwestern Medical Center is providing free mammograms for uninsured women living in Ellis, Kaufman and Rockwall counties. The mammograms are funded by a grant from the Breast Cancer Relief Foundation.
The screening takes about 30 minutes, and the images are transmitted to UT Southwestern's Center for Breast Care, where radiologists read the images for evidence of breast cancer. Patients receive results within a week. The grant also provides for diagnostic follow-up, if needed.

Porter’s Army & Navy will host their 6th annual Unite for Troops Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday November 14, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This annual drive is held to honor those serving overseas and their families. Through the assistance of the USO, the drive allows the community to collect needed items and ship them to the soldiers.
All items collected are directly shipped by the USO to Iraq and deploying military personnel from Ft. Hood in Killen Texas. PURPLESTRIDE DFW 2009
The Dallas and Ft. Worth affiliates of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will hold their first annual PurpleStride DFW run event to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. The event will take place on November 15 at scenic Meadowmere Park in Grapevine. There will be a timed 5K run/walk for adults and a 1 mile fun run for children.
Online registration is available at www.pancan.org/purplestrideDFW09. Entry fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. In addition to the run/walk, there will be refreshments, music, a raffle, grape-stomping and children’s activities. Achieving Justice with DA Craig Watkins

The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Dallas presents “Achieving Justice: DNA and the Criminal Justice System,” a discussion on the problems in the criminal justice system that has resulted in innocent people being convicted and, in some cases, given the death penalty. The event will feature Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins who has been a national leader in using DNA evidence to free people who have been convicted and jailed for crimes they did not commit. District Attorney Watkins will be joined on a panel by Cassandra Jeu, Deputy Director of the Texas Innocence Network.

The twenty-one member dance team will premiere its new kick line, and will also perform a specialty number that makes fun of drivers who talk on their cell phones. The day dance company will perform hip-hop and jazz numbers, while the night dance company will perform jazz and tap. The ballet class will perform a pointe piece.

Plano Jazz Ensemble Annual Swing Dance

The award-winning Plano Senior High School Jazz Ensemble presents the 13th annual Swing Dance on Tuesday, November 24th in the Plano Senior High School cafeteria, 2200 Independence Parkway. The Plano Senior High Jazz Ensemble has placed in the top five at the TCU Jazz Festival for the last six years, and played at New York’s Lincoln Center in “Essentially Ellington” as one of the top 10 jazz ensembles in the country! Under the direction of Jeremy Kondrat, the Jazz Ensemble will perform dance-inspiring swing music beginning at 7:30pm. I Can Cope - Exploring Self Esteem and Intim
In collaboration with Association of Oncology Social Work and the American Cancer Society, Medical City Cancer will host two classes discussing issues for people facing cancer as part of the I Can Cope educational series.
The free event will offer information from leading medical specialists and licensed clinical social workers, Craig Thompson and Jun Fulton, PhD, about coping with cancer on the topic of exploring self esteem and intimacy.

Faculty Voice Recital

The program will feature soprano Regina Walter, voice adjunct professor, in collaboration with pianist, Rosemarie Kutchuk, clarinettist Rick Smiley and guitarist Jim Eger. The evening’s program was inspired by the song “Si mes vers avaient des ailes” (If my verses had wings), by Reynaldo Hahn. Two other prominent examples of composers who have set to music poetry calling on nature as messenger are Felix Mendelssohn, "Auf Flügeln des Gesanges" (On wings of song), and Franz Schubert, "Ständchen," whose opening words are translated “Softly fly my songs through the night to you.” The program will also include some of the most beloved songs and arias by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Antonin Dvorak, Johann Strauss, Puccini, and Charpentier. Dinosaurs in December!
Close-to-home, economical fun is on tap for parents and kids during the winter holidays at the Museum of Nature & Science in Fair Park. December’s theme is dinosaurs, with a free “Dino Guide” available Dec.19 revealing all the locations inside the MNS where dinosaurs are lurking! The IMAX Theater is showing Dinosaurs: Giants of the Patagonia, while the Dino Dig offers a hands-on hint for bones and fossils. This is the final call for The Science of Spying interactive exhibit, and the Children’s Museum makes holiday fun kid-sized.

He pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus himself, but the consistent response is, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” All the nostalgic elements of the popular movie are here: the exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin & Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg. Truly a holiday classic!

Three prize winners will be named from among the many entries on display during the festival. A new feature of the competition this year is a silent auction with 100% of the auction proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen For The Cure® Foundation. He pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus himself, but the consistent response is, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” All the nostalgic elements of the popular movie are here: the exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin & Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg. Truly a holiday classic!
