UT Southwestern Medical Center is providing free mammograms for uninsured women living in Ellis, Kaufman and Rockwall counties. The mammograms are funded by a grant from the Breast Cancer Relief Foundation. The screening takes about 30 minutes, and the images are transmitted to UT Southwestern's Center for Breast Care, where radiologists read the images for evidence of breast cancer. Patients receive results within a week. The grant also provides for diagnostic follow-up, if needed. Because screenings are limited, it is required that you pre-register by calling 214-645-2560.

Sat 21 Nov 2009 9:00 AM St. Jude presents "Give thanks. Walk."
The simple act of walking is something many take for granted everyday. No one knows that more than Craig and Katie Witsoe and Doug Brooks. The Witsoes’ 4-year-old son, Sean is a patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, suffering from medulloblastoma, a pediatric brain tumor that left him without the ability to walk. After several surgeries to remove the tumor and intensive treatments, Sean can now take those steps that his parents never thought they would see again. Doug Brooks, president and CEO of Brinker International (Chili’s® Grill & Bar, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina®, Maggiano’s Little Italy®) also cherishes the ability to walk again, after a car hit him while running, leaving him with an amputated left leg. Through the help of a prosthetic leg, Doug can return to his normal and active lifestyle. The Witsoes, Doug and Chili’s Grill & Bar, are wholeheartedly supporting the upcoming, Give thanks. Emotionally riveting and profoundly moving, Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult, brings us into the heart of a family bound by an incredible burden, a desperate will to keep their ties from breaking, and a powerful capacity for love. This book has touched my heart and has made me stop to think – what would I do? Once again, we will prepare a great meal together (hands-on), before sitting down to enjoy and discussing. The menu will be taken from the great desserts by one of our characters in the book, Charlotte O'Keefe, Pastry Chef great ideas for the holidays. Sign up early, class space is limited.
