Metrocrest Amateur Radio Society Field Day
The Metrocrest Amateur Radio Society (MARS) will be participating in the ARRL National Field Day on Saturday 6/27/2009. We will be setting up several Ham Radio stations at Mary Heads Carter Park to demonstrate how Amateur Radio can provide vital communications during emergencies. MARS assists with Communications for other Community events (Pink On The Square, Christmas On The Square) as well as assisting with the National Weather Service Skywarn Storm Spotting for the Metrocrest area.
Morse Code is alive and well for Hams - but we are changing with the times! We will be demonstrating a digital transmission mode like "texting" - over radio waves, NO INTERNET - to another state or country!

Mission Support luncheon
A member, Moses Shin, of First Christian Church in Carrollton is doing some unusual mission work in North Korea. He and a group of other South Koreans are spreading the gospel by starting home churches with Bibles disguised as personal appointment calendars. They also help targeted Christians escape from North Korea, very dangerous. We are having a luncheon on June 28th at noon to raise funds to help Moses on his missionary journey. We would invite any who would like to support Moses by attending or you may send checks to FCC of Carrollton marked "Mission Support". Moses works with Disciples Global Missions in Indonesia but this type of mission falls outside their parameters and support so he could use some extra help. Thanks for your support and prayers.

Storyteller, Tim Couch will perform at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 2520 Oates Drive, Mesquite on Sunday, June 28 at 9:30 a.m. Tim practiced law in Dallas for 14 years. Most of that time he was employed by the District Attorney's Office and prosecuted child abuse cases. In 1992, Tim decided to change careers. He joined the faculty of the Episcopal School of Dallas and began to teach religion classes to middle school students. In that capacity, he freguently led the daily chapel services. Trial By Jury Chorus Rehearsal
Holy Cross Church (Episcopal) will be producing Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic opera Trial By Jury on the weekend of Oct 3rd and 4th, 2009. We need singers – in all four voices – for the choruses. During June and July the choruses will be rehearsing on Monday evenings from 7:30 – 9 p.m.

Public Meeting for New DISD School in Addison
Addison residents, particularly those with young children, are urged to attend a public meeting set for Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Addison Athletic Club, 3900 Beltway Drive, to learn about the new elementary school to be built in Addison.
“For a number of years, city staff and members of the City Council have worked closely with the Dallas Independent School District for the creation of a public school to serve all Addison children,” explained City Manager Ron Whitehead. “Funds for our new school were approved in DISD’s last bond issue and planning is well underway.”
During the meeting, representatives from DISD, the architectural design team and Addison officials will present plans for the new facility, to be located at the northwest corner of the Loos Field House tract near the intersection of Spring Valley Road and Brookhaven Club Drive. Comments by the public are welcomed.

Alzheimers Caregivers Support Group
The Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group will meet on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at New Life In Christ Lutheran Church, 311 So. Cockrell Hill Rd., Duncanville, TX 75116, 11:00 A.M.-12:30 P.M.
The July meeting will focus on listening to caregivers and their needs. We will also discuss services that are provided by various agencies that were present during the June 20th Caregiver Forum. Creek Camp III
Each day we spend about an hour walking the creek, discovering inhabitants which include tadpoles, frogs, turtles, crawfish, minnows, fish and yes, snakes. We also uncover fossils and pick up trash along the way. Each day offers a different craft from tie dying their own camp T-shirt to making snakes, candles, compasses, and painting rocks. Some of our out of the creek activities have included washing clothes as life would have allowed at the turn of the century, bucket brigade races and even a water gun shoot out at the “OK Corral.” We have even managed to sneak in a little education as we discuss how water usage on the farm has changed over the past 100 years. On Friday of Creek Camp the campers are entertained by their counselors with skits and each receive a special certificate recognizing their contributions to the week’s adventure | Heritage Farmstead Museum

Homeowners Options in the Current Real Estate

Professor Christa Diepenbrock Ziman helped students develop a thematic approach to their work using pastel. The show is a combination the best efforts students put forth during the school semester.
Teaching during this last year at Collin County Community College, Profession Ziman has organized a thought provoking exhibition of work done by her Drawing II students. Each student was employed to create a series of work that went beyond the typical “realistic” reality. Exploring a contemporary approach to art, students begin to develop more than just their ability to draw, but their ability to inspire, influence, and define their reality.

Los Altos barrio of West Dallas has created its own economic stimulus plan! On Saturday, July 25, 2009, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, Wesley-Rankin Community Center will host a Community Mercado at 3100 Crossman Avenue. This event aims at economic revitalization of the predominantly Mexican American community in West Dallas by generating new small businesses and increasing incomes.
Mexican Americans have been one of the hardest hit segments of the population during the recession. Wesley-Rankin is helping residents turn their talents, skills, and business acumen into extra money.
Among the many items for sale by seniors, teens, and community residents, will be jewelry, hand-made crafts, and authentic Mexican food.
The non-profit Methodist center has been providing services to pre-school, youth, senior citizens, and families for more than 100 years, 75 of them in West Dallas.

Animal Allies of Texas' next vaccine/chipping clinic is scheduled for Canine Commissary on Mockingbird....Saturday, July 25th, from 2-6. Local vets are donating their services providing a wonderful opportunity for the general public to be able to obtain vaccinations and microchipping at a low cost and serves as a great fundraiser for Animal Allies of Texas.
Animal Allies of Texas is a non profit 501(c)(3) animal advocacy/rescue organization : our mission is to save adoptable and treatable dogs and cats, to sponsor spay/neuter and dog training programs, and to be a source of pet-related information to our community.

Teen Manga Book Club meeting

Miss Texas 2009
Miss Texas 2009, Kristen Blair will speak and perform at St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Miss Blair is a student at the University of North Texas majoring in vocal performance. Kristen was a featured soloist in the UNT School of Music 2008 Czech Republic Tour and has performed in over 25 community theatre productions. Her platform issue is “The Extra-Curricular Advantage”.
In addition to winning the title of Miss Texas 2009 representing North Texas, Kristen was also the recipient of a preliminary talent award and was awarded the overall talent award for her vocal performance of Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s opera Turandot. Kristen hopes to pursue a career in the performing arts and teach children’s music/theatre. She was born in Houston, Texas and now resides in Southlake, Texas.
