The theme for this year's contest is "The Sky's the Limit". The contest is open to all ages and has 3 categories - person, place, or thing. East Dallas Community Garden 20th Anniversary
On Saturday, September 6, from 10:00-3:00, the East Dallas Community Garden, 1416 N. Fitzhugh Ave. (near Bryan and Fitzhugh) will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Originally started in 1988 by a coalition of various organizations to serve refugees from Southeast Asia, primarily Laos and Cambodia, it has been sponsored by Gardeners in Community Development since 1996. As one of the oldest community gardens in Dallas, it still thrives as a community garden and vegetable sellling market for not only Southeast Asian gardeners but also those from Burma and Somalia.

Variety Show/Soap Opera at GHUMC
Greenland Hills United Methodist Church presents an exciting Variety Show and Soap Opera on September 7 at 1:30 pm. An Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social will follow. The program is free and open to the public.
The program will include a choir performance and individual acts. We look forward to music from Jason Solis, who will be singing "O Del Mio Amato Ben" by Stafan Donaudy. Laura Tudor will be singing "On My Own" from Les Miserables. Other pieces include Stephen Houpt playing the blues on his harmonica and a fun gospel piece by the GH Four. Scheduled soloists include James Devenport, Sandy Hitz and Gary Coffman. There will also be some sing-along songs for those who want to clear their vocal chords with a little Irish flair.

The Hogwallow Boys in Concert at Round Grove
The community is invited to attend The Hogwallow Boys concert on Sunday, September 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Round Grove United Church, U.C.C. The church is located at 249 East Round Grove Road in Lewisville. Ticket prices are: $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children/students, $30 for a family/household maximum, and children three (3) and under are free. Cross Timbers Youth Orchestra Auditions
Cross Timbers Youth Orchestra will hold auditions for the 2008-2009 season.

Painting Classes
ART CLASSES BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 8TH.
Connie Erickson, nationally known portrait artist, will be offering a series of six 6 hour painting classes in her studio in Freedom Park in Stonebridge Ranch Mckinney
She will be teaching how to draw and paint the visual impression, stressing the fundamentals of traditional art and working on still life and portrait/figure subjects in oil or pastel. Her classes are for adults and serious young people. The fee for the six week session is $400 . The classes will meet on Mondays beginning September 8th from 9:00AM - 12:00 lunch for an hour and continue from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
This format allows students time to get concentrated work done.
