McKinney Public Library Book Club
The McKinney Public Library Book Club will discuss “What Else Are You Reading?” at its two August meetings, Wednesday, August 6, at 12:00 noon, and Thursday, August 7, at 6:30 PM. New members are always welcome, and the popular “What Else Are You Reading?” meetings, which feature a general discussion of books participants have recently read, are an excellent way to begin.
The book club meets in the Dulaney Room of the Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library, 101 E. Hunt St., on the first Wednesday of the month at noon, and the Thursday immediately following (the next day), at 6:30 PM. Both meetings discuss the current month’s book, except for August and December when recently-read books are discussed.

The Allen Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is having their 10th Annual Fundraising Banquet on Thursday, 7 August 2008, 5:30 PM at the Swingin’ D Ranch, 3406 Dublin Rd., Parker, Texas. All proceeds go to Ducks Unlimited to be used for wetland conservation and restoration.

The Sound of Music Live On Stage
The Sound of Music, which was the last musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, will take the stage at Studio B Performing Arts Center in August. The show is based on the true story of Maria Von Trapp and her life with the Von Trapp family. The Broadway show opened in 1959 and was later made into the very popular movie in 1965. Now Studio B is bringing their version to Highland Village. The Von Trapp cast will perform on August 7, 9, 15 and 17 and the Maria cast will perform on August 8, 10, 14 and 16. Show times are 7:30 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 on Sundays. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $10 for children ages 10 and under. The Dance Space Holding Company Auditions
Calling all dancers wishing to take part in dance competitions and team work--The Dance Space, an up and coming new dance studio in Flower Mound, is now gearing up for auditions for the 2008-2009 Dance Space Company. All ages are welcome to audition on August 9. Those ages 5-7 will audition at 11 a.m., ages 8-11 will audition at 12 p.m. and ages 12 and up will audition at 1 p.m. All dancers wishing to get a head start on auditions are encouraged to register for at least one of the weekly dance intensives and one Company Try Out Prep Clinic starting on July 19.

In 1999, the Southern Gospel Music world was changed forever when the Catherdral Quartet announced their farewell tour. Legacy Five took the stage in January of 2000 and their music has been received with the same kind of enthusiasm as the Catherdrals in the beginning of their reign.
Legacy Five all but swept the Singing News awards in 2004, winning the Favorite Groups, as wells as Favorite Pianist, Favorite Baritone and Favorite Bass. Legacy Five will be performing a concert at First Baptist Church of Allen, Tx on Sunday evening, August 10th at 6pm in the worship center. If it can be hammered, thrown, melted, fired, carved, folded, bent, cast, cut, glazed, coiled, polished, sculpted, twisted, molded, or embellished…it will be at The Craft Guild of Dallas on Sunday, August 10th, 11am-6pm, 14325 Proton Road, Dallas.
Two hundred artist members will be donating their handmade pottery, lampworked glass beads and jewelry to be sold at the studios of The Craft Guild. All money will go toward keeping Dallas’ oldest non-profit art instruction organization healthy-- the money is needed to pay day-to-day expenses as well as repair and update studio equipment.

Rainforest Adventure VBS

Texas House of Representatives Criminal Juris
The Texas House of Representatives, Criminal Jurisprudence Committee will hold public hearings on Wednesday and Thursday, August 13-14, at Eastfield College in Mesquite. State Representative Allen Vaught, District 107, is the vice-chairperson of the committee.
On Wednesday, the committee will hear testimony regarding problems with the deferred adjudication process in Texas, and Texas law allowing dual trials for capital murder defendants.
On Thursday, testimony will be heard on the need to add salvia divinorum to the list of controlled substances, and amendments or reorganization to the criminal trespass statute in the Penal Code.

Uptown Village at Cedar Hill Summer Concert S
Uptown Village at Cedar Hill is hosting a summer concert series, titled “JAM to Give,” that will benefit nonprofit organizations in the Cedar Hill community. The concerts, sponsored by Texas Music Project (TMP) which supports music education in Texas schools, are free to the public and will be held at the Village Green every Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the weeks of July 11 through Aug. 22.

Annual Jewish Arts Fest
This sunday Aug 17 2008 is the annual Jewish Arts Fest taking place in air
conditioned comfort inside the beautiful Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
