As Korean folk melodies filled the ballroom in Irving’s Westin hotel,
women in flowing, colorful traditional dresses warmly welcomed about 165 U.S.
Korean War veterans.
The Korean Women’s International Network hosted the event to
commemorate the war’s 60th anniversary July 30.
“I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to our country if it
weren’t for them,” said Gui Jung, 74, of Addison.
Jung was just a teen when he was drafted into the South
Korean war effort. The Korea
native is now a member of the local chapter of the Korean War Veterans
Association in hopes of doing the little bit that he can to express his
gratitude to his American counterparts.
Jung’s sentiment was reflected throughout the luncheon that
featured many speakers and Korean performances.
