DeSoto Senior Activity Center Senior of the Month
Jerrie was born in Tylertown, Mississippi. She was the fourth child of one brother and four sisters. She has two children, a boy and a girl. Jerrie was married for thirty years. She has two grandchildren and on February 9th, she was blessed with her first great-grandchild, a girl named Nicole.
Jerrie was a stay-at-home mom for twenty-two years. She then worked various jobs to keep busy. Her favorite foods are shrimp and cheesecake and her favorite song is “How Great Thou Art.” Her quirky habit is putting important things in a safe place and then forgetting where she put them. She likes to collect angels; likes to line dance and play games. Her fondest memory is when her two children were born and placed in her arms for the first time. Words to live by are acceptance, faith, a positive attitude and determination.
Before Jerrie came to the center over six years ago, she had four tragedies in her family. One was losing her thirty-four year old son to cancer. She needed to be with people and stay busy. The first day she came to the center she knew this was where she needed to be. Everyone just took me under their wings and loved me and day by day I realized there was joy and happiness after tragedies. She wants to thank each and everyone for their love and understanding.
Jerrie is one of the Senior Samaritans, is on the decorating committee and dance committee. She wants to thank the Site Council for electing her as Senior of the Month and considers it an honor. Thank you Jerri for all you do at the DeSotoSeniorActivityCenter!
