Located on the Preston Ridge Campus of Collin County Community College District, the Superdrome in Frisco is a joint partnership between the City of Frisco and CCCCD.  In the early 1990’s as the city of Frisco was preparing for future growth and infrastructure for residents and visitors, it was approached by EDS with a vision developed by its Global Sports Marketing Division Manager and world-champion cyclist Nick Chenowth for a premier sporting venue that would bring attention to Frisco, provide a showcase for technology and positively impact the community, particularly in regards to youth sports development.  Frisco has since fulfilled and surpassed its goal, also building superior and reknowned sports facilities for soccer, hockey and baseball.

In track cycling, the bicycles are "fixed gear" and have no brakes.  The Superdrome is one of only two 250 meter tracks and one of only three wooden velodromes in the United States and has bank angles of 44 degrees.  The track has a technologically advanced surface that is a combination of wood and non-skid paint for safety and ease of use, and is built upon a specially designed steel frame structure.  The Superdrome has the largest electronic scoreboard of any velodrome and can currently seat approximately 2000 spectators. The track is also unique when compared to the other twenty velodromes located throughout the United States in that it is the only velodrome that is completely self-maintained and non-profit, made possible through a 100% volunteer staff.  The facility is open 7 days/week, 12 months/year, and available for use by any track certified cyclist. Lastly, the Superdrome sponsors two free programs for youth under 18 years of age through donated bicycles and equipment, the Youth Development and Junior Development Track Racing Programs, providing children with the opportunity to learn to ride, and race, on a velodrome.

You don’t have to plan a long journey to China this summer to see an exclusive Olympic event – just come on down to the Superdrome in Frisco, Texas and enjoy a “night at the races.”  There is never a fee for spectators, and food and drinks are welcome.   Friday Night Superdrome Points Series (SPS) races start at 7:30 pm and there are races for all categories, juniors, youth and apron races for children.
