Miss Teen Duncanville crowned Miss Teen Texas 2008

Miss Teen Duncanville, Sydney Capello was crowned Miss Teen Texas on Saturday, July 5, 2008. at the Will Rogers Memorial Center Theater in Fort Worth. Sydney was selected to represent Texas in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando on August 16th.  As the winner of the Miss Teen Texas Scholarship Pageant, Sydney  received $4,000.00 in US Savings Bonds. She was also a preliminary fitness winner, overall fitness winner, overall evening gown winner, and photographer’s choice for most photogenic garnering an additional $600.00 in US Savings Bonds.

Sydney Capello, formerly Miss Teen Duncanville and now Miss Teen Texas 2008, is a 15 year old sophomore in the Gifted and Talented Program. She is also the recipient of the Duke University Talent Identification Honoree award and the Circle of Hope Community Service Award. She is also a member of the Honor Roll. Sydney joined Texas Senator Jane Nelson, Lance Armstrong and Governor Rick Perry for the signing of a groundbreaking cancer bill (Proposition 15). She is also partnered with the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, LiveStrong, and several other organizations to raise funds for cancer research. She is currently a member of Girls4Life and previously with God’s Country Kids where she promotes positive messages through song. Sydney has been featured in Girl’s Life national magazine, has received the Healthcare Heroes Award in 2005 along with Dr. Ronald Blank, former surgeon general for the US Army.

Through her title as Miss Teen Duncanville and now Miss Teen Texas, Sydney plans to emphasize that ALL CHILDREN are influenced by role models. We need more positive role models. Sydney’s plan is to empower youth to embrace the life they are given and take responsibility for becoming the best they can be. She wants to motivate those facing trials to rise above their challenges confidently and with the knowledge that one day, they will be better, not bitter. This young teen is doing just that and has the qualities necessary to dedicate herself to serving as an ambassador for the State of Texas with dignity and pride. 

 ABOUT THE MISS TEEN TEXAS SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT

The Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen Program began in 1990 as the Miss Teen Texas Program. The program provides young women the opportunity to be better prepared as they move into the “Miss” competition age group. The Miss Teen Texas Competition is a program of the Miss Texas Organization. The Miss Texas Organization is an official state preliminary to the Miss America pageant. The Miss America Organization is the largest source for scholarship assistance for women in the world.
