It’s official. The City of Rockwall released final details about Jason Castro’s homecoming celebration, which is happening Thursday, May 29. The fanfare begins with a parade featuring the top four American Idol finalist and his family, and includes an exclusive mini-concert at The Harbor.
The parade rolls out from the corner of Ridge Road and Summer Lee at 5:30 p.m, and ends on Lake Front Trail near the Cinemark Theater. In car one, will be Rockwall Mayor Bill Cecil. Jason and his parents, Rene and Betsi, will be in car number two. Cars three through eight will include members of Jason’s family. The vehicles that follow will include Jason groupies, the Chick-Fil-A cow, and of course, the dreadhead buses. (I think you’ll see me hanging out one of the windows!)
At 6:30 p.m., Jason will perform three songs at The Harbor’s outdoor amphitheater on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard - and yes, dreadhead fans, I’m told he’ll bring his ukulele and sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Mayor Cecil will present Jason with a key to the City. Teaching Pastor Wes Hamilton from LakePointeChurch (Jason’s home church) will commission Jason.
Brandon Todd from Fox 4 News will emcee the festivities, and neighborsgo cameras will be rolling. (Your photos and videos are wanted, too! Upload your still shots and videos on neighborsgo.com after the event, for a chance to be included in an upcoming neighborsgo print edition, or featured online on “Jason Castro Central,” the part of our Web site that is devoted to our favorite American Idol!) I’m told that Jason REALLY appreciates everything his fans have done for him; this is your chance to show Jason your love and support! Wear your Jason Castro t-shirt if you have one, show up with signs and banners, paint your car windows (and wear dreads, if you dare!)
Following Jason’s mini-concert, everyone is encouraged to stay for Rockwall’s regularly scheduled Concert by LakeSeries, which features Angie Stevens and her band, the Beautiful Wreck, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
And so, you ask, where do I park? Parking at The Harbor is expected to fill early in the day. The City encourages everyone to park at LakePointeChurch, located at 701 E. Interstate 30, and take the complimentary shuttle buses to and from the parade and concert site, courtesy of the Rockwall Independent School District. Shuttle buses will run from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. If you don’t go by shuttle, consider carpooling. This will be a heavily attended event and traffic snarls are likely.
Jason’s homecoming celebration is sponsored and supported by the City of Rockwall, Rockwall Parks and Recreation, Hilton Bella Harbor Hotel on Lake Ray Hubbard, the Rockwall Police, Rockwall ISD, Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, Lake Pointe Church, Rockwall Signs, C.E.R.T., Rusty Wallis Honda and Volkswagon, Scott Self and Seawolf, Brandi Patterson T-Shirt Designs, Michael Kitkoski Creative Services, Dallas Police on Lake Ray Hubbard, Dallas Morning News/neighborsgo and many more!!
